![]() Don't post living peoples' personal info.r/Genealogy Researchers Genealogy Resources If you are looking for specific help on a specific region, this post has a list of people willing to help with searches and lookups regarding certain areas. Now all-in-one is what it says, everyone in your database, which of course it too large to display, nor can you print out just the sections of interest anymore either, it's all or none.A subreddit about all things genealogy. ![]() The other was an all-in-one that let you choose which families and where to break the other members. It used to do that so you knew how someone was linked to someone else (my they were both in the same database), now it just pops up and says not related. One was the ability to trace the genealogy between two individuals. Looked at Gramps myself but have not had much time to study it yet to determine if it will work for me or not.įTM ELIMINATED two of my most used features almost a decade ago now. I just opted to keep an XP machine for accounting and a few things like this and use a KVM switch to pop to XP instantly when I need to!īut like you, I'm trying to eliminate the Doze entirely. Also, I could not save to the File Server, had to copy to a desktop folder first, then from there to the file server. I tried running like 4 different versions of FTM in WINE and although they would load and run, they could not handle the databases. I store images separately, each individual has their OWN file with 3 sometimes 4 sub-files nested inside the main file. So needless to say, I have numerous redundant backups. ![]() I have over 150,000 linked individuals! It would take years to rebuild this data if it ever becomes corrupted again. I also don't use many of their add-ons that store the files right in the main file, it increases the chance of data destruction exponentially. So I'm VERY SLOW on even looking at newer bloated versions. I've used FTM ever since the msDOS days, some of their upgrades caused massive data destruction that had to be rebuilt by hand. What VERSION of FTM are you using and HOW MANY individuals are linked therein? Last edited by anewguy April 29th, 2008 at 08:04 PM. Also, on shutdown when it automatically saves the file, you may get a not responding box - just ignore it as it will go away as soon as the file is finished being saved and the program exits.Īlso might be worth noting that I have upgraded my video card since the last attempt and turned on desktop effects and yet everything in FTM seems to be working great! No more missing text, missing boxes, etc., for me! I am still trying to figure out printing - it sees my printer but won't let me select it as I have no driver installed. Those days may be over!ĮDIT: Please be aware that it takes quite a while on my machine before you actually know it is starting up. If this holds up, it will be a big plus for Ubuntu! So far, there really is no program remotely like Family Tree Maker for Linux, and it had been the reason I had a dual-boot with Windows. PLEASE - if you use Family Tree Maker and have updated to Hard (8.04) please try installing Wine and then use Wine to install your Family Tree Maker and see if it appears to work for you, also! I can't believe it - I don't know if Wine has changed or something else has changed, but I installed Family Tree Maker using Wine and it actually appears to be running okay in Hardy!! I've never had it appear to work right before, so this is REALLY good news for me - no more Windows!!
